Coaching & Support

Welcome to The Neurodivergent Well’s coaching and support services. I’m Emily, writer, artist and neurodivergent affirming coach.

I am here to support you, listen to you, understand you, affirm you and offer tools and research that may help you integrate your experiences, understand your own mind, and find more moments of joy, safety and peace.

Studying wellness enhancing techniques, from a personal and scientific lens, has been my lifelong passion. But once I discovered my own neurodivergence, I knew I had to find ways towards wellness that fit my neurodivergent mind. It suddenly all made sense why some of these techniques really helped me, while others left me wondering why they seemed to work for everyone but me. My focus is now on studying and practicing techniques created or curated for neurodivergent minds. It's and ongoing journey of learning and integrating, but I’d love to share what I’ve learned with you so far.

In our sessions, my role is to be a compassionate support and brainstorming partner for facing the challenges and glimmers of neurodivergent life.

(TLDR at end for accessibility)

What To Expect In Support Sessions

Compassionate Listening & Support

I firmly believe that compassion arises out of relationships of equality. So I use an equality based, self guided approach. I am not here to tell you what you should do, or to analyze what needs fixing. I am here as an equal, as a friend, as someone who can listen to your story, offer insight, and support you in working towards your own goals.

With over a decade of experience and education in compassion-based methods for listening and supporting others, I aim to offer a safe space for unmasking and external processing, where you can feel free to be your unique self without fear of judgment.

Mindfulness & Creativity Based Integration Practices

My coaching also includes a variety of integration practices grounded in mindfulness, compassion and creativity. These have helped me to build more resilience, get more in tune with my body, and discover what brings me joy.

I’ve curated and modified many of these techniques to better fit the needs of neurodivergent individuals.  Still, understanding that there are no “one size fits all” solutions (especially when it comes to the diversity within neurodivergence), we will work together to find what works best for you.

Guidance on Scientific Research

My PhD is in the philosophy of science, focused on the psychology of well-being. My education (and subsequent career as a science journalist) has given me the tools to understand psychological research at an academic level and share those insights in layman's terms.

I often share insights from the research about neurodivergence with my clients when it relates to what they are working with.

Lived Neurodivergent Experience

I bring my own life’s experience to my coaching, and often share what has helped me with challenges my clients are also facing. I have faced so many of the difficulties and joys of neurodivergent living myself, as a queer, high masking, late diagnosed autistic and ADHD person with anxiety, PDA, trauma and chronic pain. Even before discovering my own neurodivergence, these experiences have given me a lot of empathy for others whose differences have left them misunderstood or left out by mainstream society. If you’ve always felt weird, different, stigmatized, misunderstood or alien, I am right there with you. And honestly, most of my favorite people fit that description too.

Neurodivergent Brainstorming

Neurodivergence can come with a lot to process. Here are some common topics that come up in this work:

  • Unmasking

  • Understanding the science of neurodivergent wellness

  • Accommodating our needs and asking for help from others

  • Adjusting to a late neurodivergent diagnosis

  • Living a joyful and fulfilling life with a neurodivergent brain

Whatever aspects of neurodivergence you are working with, I’m here to listen, share what I know and help you strategize. I can’t promise I’ll always have all the answers, but I can promise to work with you to find what best helps you.

Commitment to Intersectional Inclusivity

I am committed to intersectional inclusivity, and welcome adults of any age, gender identity, sexuality, neurotype, race or cultural background.

I welcome stimming, differences in eye contact, tone modulation differences, lapses in attention, body language differences, or any other manifestation of your neurodivergence in our sessions.

I hold a destigmatized, non-judgemental view around substance use choices.

Most of my sessions take place on video calls, but I also offer options for texting sessions for those who process better in writing, and am always willing to work with my clients' diverse needs to make our sessions more accessible.

Please Keep in Mind: I am not a psychologist, and my coaching is NOT therapy, counseling, or any kind of medical or psychological advice.
