About The Neurodivergent Well
Welcome! This blog and coaching practice is about finding more joy, understanding and well-being as neurodivergent humans.
I was inspired to start The Neurodivergent Well because I noticed that both the scientific literature and the personal accounts of neurodivergent people suggest that mainstream methods for enhancing wellness can sometimes be counterproductive for neurodivergent minds. Often, what works for most, doesn’t work for us - our brains just need something different.
But what does work for us? It can be difficult to sort through. The scientific research varies in quality, can be hard for a layperson to read, and is often filled with stigmatising and biased assumptions from researchers. The personal experiences shared online can be incredibly helpful, but are often rooted in individual experience and it can be hard to tell whether they are generalizable to the neurodivergent conditions they are attributed to. There is a lot to untangle.
As a neurodivergent science journalist and wellness educator, on a life-long mission to study the causes of well-being, I knew had to delve into the research, the personal accounts, and my own experiences to try to make sense of some of the pressing questions around neurodivergent wellness - and then share what I've found.
So, The Neurodivergent Well is a space where we can explore what works for our own unique minds. With a focus on evidence-based research, personal reflections, and individual support for neurodivergent humans,
Together, let's explore the vast landscape of neurodivergent wellness, armed with curiosity, compassion, and a commitment to uncovering the glimmers, challenges and mysteries that lie within.
Hi, I’m Emily
A Neurodivergent Writer, Artist and Coach
I’m passionate about exploring the unique aspects of neurodivergent well-being, through the lens of science, personal experience and the shared wisdom of the neurodivergent community. My work is informed by my background in scientific analysis, my training in mindfulness, and my passion for creativity, along with the lived experience of being a queer, late diagnosed, high masking autistic and ADHD person with PDA, anxiety, trauma and chronic pain. I bring all of this into my work to support and offer insight to those navigating neurodivergence.
Let's discover together what it means to live fully and joyfully, embracing the diversity of our minds.
